Call her a Rebel with a mike.

Keeping up with the tradition of landing big-name comedians, MTV has tapped perennial scene-stealer Rebel Wilson to host the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.

The 28-year-old Aussie native can add this latest credit to her ever-expanding resume. Since breaking out in Bridesmaids, Wilson has brought on the funny in this year’s Pitch Perfect, Bachelorette, and What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

Next, she’ll appear alongside Chris Colfer in Struck by Lightening, the Glee star’s writing and directorial debut, which premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards on April 14, 2013!

You can watch a promo for the awards show below, which features a surprise cameo by Rebel’s on-screen Bridesmaids brother, Matt Lucas!

New ‘Oz’ Poster Features the Wicked Witch of the West

Which old witch is the Wicked Witch?

The new poster for Oz: The Great and Powerful finally puts the spotlight square on the Wicked Witch of the West, but we’re still left wondering which character in the much-anticipated Wizard of Oz prequel is destined to become Dorothy’s green-skinned nemesis.

Most people are pointing the finger at Rachel Weisz’s sultry Evanora, but I’m betting on the more mild-mannered Theodora, played by Mila Kunis. Wouldn’t that be a great twist? (On a side note, I think we can all agree that Michelle Williams’ Glinda is a good witch.)

In the Sam Raimi-directed film, circus magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is whisked away in a hot air balloon to land of Oz. There, he meets the sister witches, gets tangled up in a mission to destroy the Wicked Witch, and ultimately becomes the Wizard of Oz.

Oz: The Great and Powerful will be released in theaters on March 8, 2013.

Who do you think is the Wicked Witch of the West?

The legal eagles of Suits are suiting up for another battle.

In a new promo for the mid-season premiere of USA’s criminally underrated Suits, exiled former managing partner Daniel Hardman (played to slimy perfection by David Costabile) returns to square off against Jessica (Gina Torres), Harvey (Gabriel Macht), and Mike (Patrick J. Adams).

When we last checked in on Pearson Hardman, Jessica wrested control of the firm from Hardman after Mike figured out that he had framed Harvey for burying evidence.

Also in the promo: brief shots of Mike and Rachel (Meghan Markle) getting it on, Louis (Rick Hoffman) sitting behind bars, and Donna (Sarah Raffery) finally giving Hardman what’s coming to him.

Suits, how I’ve missed you.

You can catch an all-new episode of Suits on USA one month from today, on January 17, 2013.

Is it January 13 yet?

As if I didn’t love them enough already, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler get all dolled up and channel Hollywood’s classic leading ladies in the first promo for this year’s Golden Globes. In case you didn’t know, the funny girls/longtime BFFs are hosting the “greatest celebrity party/awards show” exactly one month from today.

Hollywood has been buzzing about the pair taking over for three-time host Ricky Gervais, and if this promo is any indication, then they surely won’t disappoint!

‘Arrow’ Nabs Colton Haynes For Iconic Role

Arrow has Colton Haynes in its crosshairs.

It looks like Teen Wolf‘s loss is Arrow‘s gain, as the superhero drama has booked the chiseled star for a major recurring arc, to begin when the series returns in early 2013.

Haynes, who announced in October he would not be returning to Teen Wolf for its upcoming third season, will play Roy Harper, a love interest for Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) sister, Mia (Willa Holland). I brushed up on my DC mythology (so you don’t have to!), and apparently the character assumes the role of Green Arrow’s sidekick, Speedy, as well as the Justice League’s Red Arrow.

A bright spot in The CW’s freshman line-up, Arrow is averaging over 3 million viewers each week.

Are you excited for Colton’s return to TV?

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Teaser Surfaces

And just like that, the upcoming Star Trek sequel has a poster and a teaser trailer. It’s a good week to be a Trekkie, that’s for sure!

In anticipation of next summer’s surefire blockbuster, studio bigwigs have released what they’re calling an “announcement trailer” for Star Trek Into Darkness. Without giving too much anything away, the action-filled spot offers up a first glimpse of Benedict Cumbercatch — a revelation on BBC’s Sherlock – as the as-yet unindentified villain hellbent on destroying Earth. By the looks of it, however, it’s more than likely that rumors of Cumberbatch playing fan favorite Khan are true. “I have returned to have my vengeance,” he says.

The J.J. Abrams-helmed sci-fi flick will reunite Enterprise crew members Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), “Bones” McCoy (Karl Urban), Chekhov (Anon Yelchin), Sulu (John Cho), and “Scotty” (Simon Pegg).

Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in theaters on May 17, 2013.

Just-Go-with-It

Los Angeles is about to get a little taste of Brooklyn.

Entertainment Weekly confirms that Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model Brooklyn Decker is slated to appear on an episode of the hit FOX sitcom New Girl. The ep, titled “The Cooler,” will air in early 2013. And yes, that clicking you is hear is the collective sound of guys everywhere setting their DVRs.

According to reports, when Decker’s Holly walks into Nick’s (Jake Johnson) bar, the cynical bartender catches her eye, much to the dismay of roommates Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield).

Brooklyn has previously guested on Chuck, Royal Pains, and Ugly Betty. Since making her film debut in Just Go With It, the 25-year-old has appeared in Battleship and What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

Will you tune in to New Girl to see Mrs. Andy Roddick flex her comedic chops?

‘Girls’ Season 2 Promo Debuts

Let’s hear it for the funny Girls.

A little over a month before comedienne and multitasker extraordinare Lena Dunham’s Girls returns to HBO, a new promo featuring Ellie Goulding’s “Anything Can Happen” has been released. I, for one, couldn’t be more excited. (I quickly became obsessed with the NYC-based dramedy after watching all ten episodes in one afternoon during my summer vacation.)

Picking up where the critically acclaimed first season left off, season 2 will find Dunham’s Hannah contending with a heartbroken (and possibly probably “murdery”) Adam, Marnie (Allison Williams) questioning her future, Jessa (Jemima Kirke) adjusting to married life, and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) dealing with the aftermath of losing her V-Card.

The second season of Girls debuts January 13 on HBO. That gives all you Girls virgins plenty of time to get caught up!

Adele Goes Diamond

Adele is setting fire to the record books.

Less than two years after her sophomore set took hold of the Billboard 200 chart, 21 has achieved Diamond status in the United States, selling over ten million copies. In the era of digital music, this is no small feat. What’s more, only seven other artists have reached this milestone faster than the British chanteuse.

On my first day writing this blog, 21 topped the charts for the very first time, and my ears couldn’t get enough of a little song called Rolling in the Deep. Ninety-two weeks later, I’m chronicling Adele’s latest achievement — and belting Skyfall at the top of my lungs.

Election Day In America

November 6, 2012 Leave a comment

After what seems like an eternity of endless campaigning, election day has finally arrived. Admittedly, I’ve never been all that into politics, but it’s hard not getting caught up in the excitement of the day. It was hardly 8:30 in the morning, and already my classmates were lining up at the polls to cast their vote. No matter that they had to wait outside in the bitter cold, some for over an hour. Nothing was going to stop them from having their voice heard.

As a Canadian studying medicine in the United States, I realize that the outcome of this election will have a huge impact on my future, probably in more ways than I can even imagine. So, with that said, I urge all my American friends, Democrats and Republicans, to go out and vote!

For up-to-the-minute election coverage, check out my good friend — and political junkie — Jamie’s blog. He’ll be live tweeting the results tonight!
