TV Preview: United States of Tara

March 14, 2011 1 comment

Two weeks from tonight, Showtime is launching a new season of United States of Tara, and I couldn’t be more excited.  One of the best kept secrets on television, the dramedy follows Tara Gregson, a wife and mother of two suffering from multiple personality disorder.  Among Tara’s “alters” are a 1950’s housewife, a macho biker, a rebellious teen, and a hippie therapist.  Aussie actress Toni Collette stars in the titular role, and has already taken home an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her fearless performance.  Despite playing such different characters, Collette is able to switch between personalities with remarkable ease, and somehow always manages to be believable.  Rounding out the show’s stellar cast are John Corbett as Tara’s husband, Rosemarie DeWitt as her sister, and Brie Larson and Keir Gilchrist as her children.  For anyone interested in catching the season premiere on March 28, United States of Tara creator (and Juno screenwriter!) Diablo Cody promises that no prior knowledge of the show is required to watch the new season.
